Badesee Coswig-Kötitz
The Badesee Coswig-Kötitz is a water park with a swimming pool and natural lake shoreline near the Elbe River. The site features a 25-meter pool with diving blocks, a children's wading pool, a long slide, water mushrooms and air jets, plus a natural lake with seven hectares of water surface and sandy beach areas.
The lake was created in 1927 from an old gravel pit after the city's original swimming bath became too small for the growing population. The camping area was added later in 2002 to provide overnight accommodation for visitors.
The lake takes its name from the nearby village of Kötitz and reflects the local need for a public swimming place. Families and cyclists use the area regularly, gathering here to cool off and take breaks during their outdoor activities.
The swimming area is open May through September, daily from 10 in the morning to 8 in the evening, with hours varying by weather conditions. The campground with 64 spaces lies directly on the Elberadweg, a popular cycling route that runs from Schmilka to Cuxhaven.
The site was created from an old gravel quarry that was transformed to meet the city's need for a swimming place. This reuse of industrial land shows how abandoned areas can become popular outdoor destinations.
