Le Bercail, Restaurant and community space in Bayonne, France
Le Bercail is a café-restaurant and community gathering space in Bayonne, in the French Basque Country. It combines a dining area with workshop rooms, a library, two play areas for children, and an outdoor space where lamas and sheep roam freely.
The project was founded in 2019 by one person who wanted to create an open and welcoming meeting place for everyone. The idea was to build a space that goes beyond a simple restaurant and brings people together around shared activities.
Orders are placed at the counter and guests pick up their dishes directly from the kitchen, which keeps things relaxed and informal. The outdoor area with animals and play spaces is freely accessible, making it a good stop for families with young children.
The menu changes every 2 months based on what local Basque producers have available that season. The place has also received the official label "Le choix des familles", a French recognition awarded to spaces that are genuinely suited to families of all ages.
