Paz Taqueria, Mexican restaurant in New Town, Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Paz Taqueria is a Mexican restaurant in Edinburgh's New Town, on Thistle Street. It serves tacos with fillings like chicken, octopus, and ox tongue, along with starters and cocktails.
Paz Taqueria opened in December 2023 in the former site of El Cartel, a well-liked taco spot that closed after lockdown. It was started by Stuart McCluskey, who had also been involved with El Cartel.
The name Paz means peace in Spanish, a simple word that sets a relaxed tone. The menu mixes traditional Mexican street food with local twists, and the tacos are meant to be eaten with your hands, just like in Mexico.
The place is small and popular, so expect a wait at peak times; it's best to arrive early or be ready to return later. It's a short walk from Princes Street, making it easy to reach on foot.
The dining room has teal walls and retro posters, giving it a more grown-up feel than its predecessor. The kitchen also offers less common taco fillings, such as confit octopus and ox tongue.
