Καπετάν Νικόλας, Restaurant on the island of Koufonisia, Greece
Καπετάν Νικόλας is a restaurant on the island of Koufonisia, in the municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades, Greece. It sits in an open courtyard with a view of the sea and a nearby windmill.
The tavern was founded by a fisherman named Nikolas, who supplied it directly from his own boat. Over time, his son Panagiotis took over and the place has remained a family-run spot ever since.
The name Καπετάν Νικόλας refers to a real captain who once supplied his own tavern with fish from his boat. That same family spirit continues today, with his son Panagiotis guiding guests through the day's catch.
The restaurant is on Koufonisia, a small island best explored on foot since no cars are allowed. Arriving early is a good idea, as the daily fish supply is limited and tends to run out.
Panagiotis's daughter Rinio composes the menu each day, cooking everything from traditional pies to seafood pasta. What is on offer can change from one day to the next depending on what was caught that morning.
