Sidrería Tierra Astur Águila, restaurant in Colloto, Spain
Sidrería Tierra Astur Águila is a restaurant in Colloto, Spain, set inside a former beer warehouse with wooden walls and high ceilings where green glass cider bottles hang from above. Large wooden vats serve as dining nooks, and an open charcoal grill fills the air with the smell of roasted meats and vegetables.
The building belonged to the Águila Negra beer factory before it became a cider house. For more than two decades, the owners have kept the original wooden structure and turned the old storage space into a busy dining room.
On Thursdays, the place hosts an espicha, a gathering where people share cider straight from the barrel while Asturian music plays nearby. Around the room, the cider bottles hanging from the ceiling remind visitors that this drink is poured the local way, from a height to wake up its taste.
Wear comfortable shoes because the floors are uneven in places and the dining space is spread across one large room with several levels. If you come with a group, book ahead, as weekends fill up quickly and the area around the restaurant is quiet with limited parking.
Some tables are built inside huge wooden cider barrels, so you can sit with friends as if you were inside the drink itself. A virtual tour on the restaurant's website lets you walk through the room and see these barrel tables before you arrive.
