Plage Imourane, Sand beach near Agadir, Morocco
Plage Imourane is a wide sandy beach on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, located a short distance south of Agadir. The shoreline runs between rocky cliffs and grassy dunes, with soft golden sand and open views over the ocean.
The area around Imourane was long a small fishing settlement used by local Amazigh communities. It remained largely away from tourism until coastal development around Agadir began reaching this part of the shoreline in recent decades.
The name Imourane comes from Tamazight, the Amazigh language, and roughly means "the valleys." Along the shoreline, you can watch fishermen pulling in their boats and tending their nets, a scene that reflects the way coastal life has been lived here for generations.
The beach is at its most open and quiet in the early morning, which is a good time for a walk or a swim before the day fills up. The sun can be strong for long stretches, so covering up is a good idea even on mild days.
Imourane is used by surf schools that teach beginners because the beach has both gentler sections and stronger waves, making it work for different levels on the same day. The beach also sits along a migratory bird route, so walkers sometimes spot unexpected species resting along the shore between sea and dune.
