ART ADVENT Christmas Market, Christmas market at Karlsplatz, Vienna, Austria
ART ADVENT Christmas Market is a seasonal event at Karlsplatz before the Baroque Karlskirche with around 78 wooden stalls. The stands display handcrafted art objects, from jewelry to home decorations.
The market was founded by the Divina Art Association and combines Vienna's long Christmas market tradition with contemporary craftsmanship. It provides seasonal space for modern artists to sell their work.
The market features work from local artisans in the Vienna area, including handcrafted ceramics, jewelry, and textiles. You can watch craftspeople sell and discuss their own pieces directly on the plaza.
The market sits right next to Karlsplatz subway station and is easy to reach on foot. The pathways between stalls are wide and the area is relatively flat, making navigation simple for all visitors.
One food vendor holds the Austrian Environmental Label, a rare certification for sustainability practices that goes far beyond standard organic requirements. This standard demands high levels of responsibility across all aspects of operations.

Christmas markets are a long-standing tradition in many European cities during the Advent season. The markets take place on central squares and historic streets, where wooden stalls offer regional specialties, handcrafted goods, and traditional decorations. From roasted almonds to mulled wine to local handicrafts, each city presents its own culinary and cultural features. In Germany, cities such as Nuremberg, Dresden, Munich, Hamburg, and Stuttgart host their Christmas markets, while Austria welcomes visitors to Vienna and Salzburg. France is represented by Strasbourg, Metz, Montbéliard, and Lille. Belgium offers markets in Brussels, Bruges, and Leuven, the Netherlands in Maastricht and Valkenburg. In Poland, markets can be found in Wrocław, Kraków, and Poznań. Additional markets take place in Prague, Budapest, Zagreb, Basel, Bern, and in Scandinavian cities such as Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo, Rovaniemi, and in the Baltic capitals of Riga and Tallinn. London, Edinburgh, the Italian towns of Merano and Asti-Govone, and even Madeira are also among the locations of this winter tradition.
