Maraya, Theater building in the Al-Ula region, Saudi Arabia
Maraya is a theater and events building in the Ashar Valley, in the Al-Ula region of Saudi Arabia. The cube-shaped structure is entirely clad in mirrored glass panels on the outside, with an indoor concert hall that seats around 500 people.
The building opened in December 2018 with a concert by Saudi musician Mohammed Abdo. It was developed as part of a broader plan to turn Al-Ula into a destination for arts and cultural events.
The name Maraya means "mirror" in Arabic, which describes both the building's appearance and its role as a place where people come to see and be seen. The surface picks up the colors of the sky and the surrounding cliffs, shifting throughout the day as the light moves.
The building sits in the Ashar Valley, about a 20-minute drive from the center of Al-Ula. The outside can be viewed freely, but the interior is only open during events.
The mirrored facade holds a Guinness World Record as the largest mirrored building structure in the world. In 2021, the Gulf Cooperation Council summit took place inside, during which a key agreement was signed under the chairmanship of the Saudi king.
