Lochgelly Centre, Theatre and community venue in Fife, Scotland
The Lochgelly Centre is a theatre and community venue on Bank Street in the town of Lochgelly, Fife, Scotland. It brings together a theatre hall, a library, community galleries, art rooms, a sports hall, and a café within a single building.
The Lochgelly Centre opened in 1976 to give this former mining town a cultural space for music, theatre, and learning. It was later renovated and reopened in early 2012 after a major investment by Fife Council, which added a glass-fronted extension housing a library and reception.
The Lochgelly Centre serves as a gathering point for people of all ages, from children attending pantomimes to adults enjoying comedy or music nights. Local artists display their work in the community gallery, giving visitors a direct look at what is being created in the area.
The building has a flat entrance with automatic doors, and the theatre has dedicated wheelchair-accessible seating. Parking is shared with a nearby health centre, and extra spaces can be found in the surrounding streets.
Although the centre is known mainly for theatre, small unplanned concerts sometimes take place in the craft rooms or the community gallery, surprising visitors who came for something else entirely. The café has also quietly become a regular daytime meeting spot for people using the library, separate from any show or event.
