Schladitzer Bucht
Schladitzer Bucht is a sand beach at a former mining lake near Rackwitz in Saxony-Anhalt. Opened in 2014, the sports beach features soft sand and gravel, with shallow water zones for swimming and large areas for sunbathing or play.
The lake formed after coal mining ended in the region, as excavations filled with water once extraction ceased. Since 2003, the area has been used for recreation and water sports, with the sports beach representing its most recent development.
The lake emerged as a community gathering space after coal mining ended in the early 1990s, transforming former industrial land into a recreational destination. Visitors now use the beach and surrounding areas to spend leisure time with family and friends, creating a shared space for relaxation and water enjoyment.
The site lies about 14 kilometers from Leipzig and is accessible by train, bus, or car with parking available nearby. Well-maintained paths around the water make it easy to walk or cycle through the area.
At the nearby Haynaer Strand, a project recreates a Biedermeier-style bathing area, showing how people swam in historical times. This unusual concept blends modern recreation with cultural experience from a past era.
