Orange Bay, Sand beach on Giftun Island, Hurghada, Egypt
Orange Bay is a sand beach on Giftun Island, a short boat ride from the Hurghada marina in Egypt. It opens onto shallow, clear water in shades of blue and green, with a wide strip of white sand lined by low wooden walkways and shaded rest areas.
Giftun Island has long been known as a stopping point for boats working the Red Sea coast near Hurghada. The beach itself became a managed day-trip destination after the growth of Hurghada as a resort town.
Along the shoreline, small groups of day visitors spread out between sun loungers, snorkelers wade into the water with masks in hand, and staff move between the beach and drink stands under the sun shades. The rhythm of the place follows the arrival and departure of boats, creating short bursts of activity followed by quieter stretches on the sand.
Bring a hat, sunscreen and water shoes, because shade is limited on the open sand and the sun is strong for most of the day. Most visitors arrive by organized boat trip, so keeping your group's meeting time in mind helps you enjoy the beach without rushing.
The sand here looks white from a distance, but close up it contains tiny fragments of broken coral and shell that make a soft crunch underfoot. On calm days, the water is so still near the shore that the seafloor appears almost like a pale, rippled mirror when seen from the end of the wooden jetty.
