Keya Beach, Sand beach in Itoshima, Japan
Keya Beach is a sand beach in the city of Itoshima, west of Fukuoka, Japan. The water is shallow near the shore and the sand is fine and pale, making it easy to walk along barefoot or wade in.
The area around Keya Beach was once a small fishing community, and boats have anchored in these waters for many generations. Today, fishing boats can still be spotted near the shore, especially in the early morning.
The beach is reachable by car via the Nishikyushu Expressway, and parking is available close by. Those without a car can take the train to Chikuzen-Maebaru station and then a short bus ride to the Keya stop.
The Japanese Ministry of the Environment has officially listed Keya Beach among the top 100 beaches in Japan. This makes it one of the few coastal spots in the Fukuoka region to hold that kind of official recognition.
