Sillé Plage, Sandy beach in Sillé-le-Guillaume, France.
This lakeside recreational area features a 32-hectare artificial lake surrounded by the vast state forest of Sillé, offering visitors a sandy beach called Coco Plage with designated swimming areas and various water sports facilities.
Originally established at the beginning of the twentieth century by Gabriel Richefeu, nicknamed Coco, who operated a bar that later became a popular Guinguette until its destruction during World War II bombing in 1944.
The site represents French leisure culture with its tradition of lakeside recreation, hosting community gatherings, water sports competitions, and serving as a popular destination for family outings during summer months.
The beach operates with lifeguard supervision from 1 PM to 7 PM during July and August, providing parking facilities, restrooms, refreshment stands, bicycle rentals, and fishing permits available on-site or through the local tourist office.
The beach was reconstructed after wartime destruction through community resilience efforts, and now features a small train that circles the lake area alongside walking trails including the GR 36 route.
