Plage du Centre, Sand beach in Bidart, France
Plage du Centre is a sand beach in the town of Bidart, on the Basque coast of France, flanked by Erretegia beach to the north and Uhabia beach to the south. It runs for about 500 meters and is framed by green cliffs that rise sharply above the sand.
Bidart is an old fishing village, and this beach has long been part of local daily life. The old dike that runs alongside the sand has stood there for close to a century and is the most visible trace of that past.
The beach is a meeting point for families in summer and surfers looking for good waves throughout the year. In winter, walkers come at low tide to explore the rocky base of the cliffs.
The beach sits close to the center of Bidart and can be reached on foot, by bike, or by bus, with a stop called Plage du Centre right nearby. From June to September, lifeguards are on duty and dogs are not allowed on the sand.
At high tide, the sandy strip narrows sharply, so the beach can look very different depending on the time of day. Checking the tide schedule before arriving helps visitors choose the right moment to set up on the sand.
