Hundestrand
Hundestrand in Norden Norddeich is a fenced dog beach area on the North Sea with approximately 2 hectares (5 acres) of space specifically designed for dogs. The site includes dog wash stations, rentable beach chairs, seating areas, and access to a wide sandy beach with stairs and sloped pathways leading to the water.
Hundestrand was created as a dedicated space for dogs to meet the needs of dog owners vacationing on the North Sea coast. A major redesign of the beach took place in 2022, adding new infrastructure such as fencing, wash stations, and improved water access pathways.
This beach section is reserved specifically for dogs to run freely, a rare permission along most of the North Sea coast. The space shows how the local community has created a dedicated area where dog owners can watch their pets interact and explore naturally together.
The beach offers ample parking nearby, about 500 meters away, making it easy to access by car. Visitors should note that from April through mid-July dogs must be leashed in certain zones to protect nesting birds, but outside this period dogs can run freely in the fenced area.
The beach was specifically designed with sloped pathways and stairs leading to the water to make access easier for dogs of different sizes and mobility levels. This thoughtful feature shows how the site was adapted to accommodate the diverse needs of visiting dogs.
