Aktivstrand
Aktivstrand is a sand beach in Binz, a seaside town on the island of Rügen in northern Germany. The shore is wide and flat, with a gentle slope into the water that makes it easy to enter the sea on foot.
Binz grew into a popular seaside resort in the early 1900s, drawing visitors from Berlin and other German cities looking for sea air and rest. The beach was gradually developed to meet the needs of these early tourists.
The name Aktivstrand means "active beach" in German, which tells you right away what kind of crowd gathers here. Visitors tend to come for beach volleyball, frisbee, and other sports rather than just sunbathing.
The beach gets very busy on warm summer days, so arriving in the morning gives you more space to settle in. Changing facilities and showers are available along the strand, so there is no need to bring everything from your accommodation.
Rügen is the largest island in Germany, and Binz is its best-known seaside town. The beach sits right next to the Binz pier, which stretches out over the water and offers a good view of the whole shoreline from above.
