This beach has been a popular destination along the coast for many decades. The nearby lifeboat station, established in 1860, continues to operate a small rescue service today, reflecting the area's long connection to maritime safety.
The beach is also known as Sandy Bay and has been a gathering place for families for many years. It represents a blend of seaside relaxation and traditional seaside entertainment, where visitors experience classic attractions like pony rides and amusement activities.
Parking is readily available along the seafront promenade and in dedicated areas near the beach, making access simple. Water quality is regularly checked, and lifeguards are on duty during summer months to ensure visitor safety.
Two heritage passenger ships, Waverley and Balmoral, depart from the nearby harbor and offer cruises along the Bristol Channel and Devon coast. This allows visitors to experience the shoreline from a different perspective during a boat journey.
