Canford Cliffs Beach
Canford Cliffs Beach is a sand beach on Dorset's south coast featuring light-colored firm sand and clear water for swimming. The shoreline is backed by steep chalk cliffs covered in green vegetation and protected by a concrete promenade at the cliff base.
A concrete promenade was built at the cliff base in the 1930s to prevent coastal erosion and protect the land from the sea. A sea wall was later constructed and ongoing maintenance efforts continue to keep the cliffs stable.
The beach takes its name from the chalk cliffs that rise behind it and give the location its distinctive character. Colorful beach huts line the sand's edge and create a charming visual that defines the shoreline.
Access is via a steep path down through a narrow ravine with steps, which can be difficult for visitors with reduced mobility. Toilets and cafes are nearby, lifeguards are present during summer months, and parking is available on adjacent roads though spaces are limited.
The beach hosts a training ground for the England Beach Soccer Team, where official matches and practice sessions take place on the sand. This makes it a rare location where visitors can watch professional athletes training.
