Dubultu pludmale, Sand beach in Rīga, Latvia
Dubultu pludmale is a long stretch of sandy shore along the Baltic Sea in the Dubulti area of Rīga. It extends beside low dunes and open sky, with a wide shoreline where the water meets the sand in a gentle line.
The beach developed as part of Jūrmala's growth as a seaside resort, with the first summer houses appearing nearby in the 19th century. Over time, the shoreline became a regular destination for relaxation, replacing the older fishing settlements that once dotted this stretch of coast.
Along the shoreline, people walk at sunrise or sunset, often pausing to watch the light change over the water. Near the beach, the Dubulti Lutheran Church stands close to the sand, giving the area a quiet local landmark that visitors notice while strolling.
The sand is firm near the water, so walking along the shoreline is easy even without special shoes. Benches and a few small paths near the beach offer resting spots for those who prefer not to walk directly on the sand.
A small lighthouse stands near the beach, simple and easy to miss among the sand and low dunes. From some spots along the shore, the mouth of the Lielupe River is visible, where the river water meets the sea and creates a shifting line of currents.
