IJsselmeerstrand, Public beach in Harderwijk, Netherlands
IJsselmeerstrand is a public beach in Harderwijk with a wide sandy shoreline along the Wolderwijd water body. The swimming area is clearly marked by floating safety lines and extends for several hundred meters along the waterfront.
The beach came into being following completion of the Afsluitdijk in 1932, which transformed the former Zuiderzee into the freshwater IJsselmeer lake. This engineering change made possible a new controlled waterfront that people could safely enjoy.
The beach serves as a gathering place where people come to swim and relax during warm months. Families regularly use the shoreline for time together by the water, making it a natural social hub for the community.
The beach offers paid parking, restrooms, restaurants, and playground equipment near the main entrance area. Most facilities are conveniently grouped together, making it easy to find what you need during your visit.
The water maintains a consistent shallow depth for several meters, making it ideal for beginning swimmers and children. This gradual slope is something many visitors come to appreciate once they experience it firsthand.
