Praia do Seixal

Praia do Seixal is a black sand beach on Madeira's northern coast, bordered by steep green mountains that rise sharply from the shoreline. The dark volcanic sand creates a striking contrast with the blue water.

The beach area developed from a 19th-century trading port into a recreational destination as local economic focus shifted. This transformation reflects how the region adapted to modern tourism.

Local fishermen maintain their traditional practices at the adjacent harbor, while modern water sports enthusiasts engage in surfing and bodyboarding activities throughout the year.

The beach provides free facilities including showers, toilets, and changing rooms located near the water. Parking is available directly behind the main area and easy to access.

Natural waterfalls cascade down the surrounding mountain faces and meet the ocean below. This convergence of fresh and salt water creates an unusual landscape where three water sources interact.
