Büyük Çakıl Plajı, shingle beach in Kaş, Turkey
Büyük Çakıl Plajı is a small shingle beach in Kaş, Turkey, about 1,750 meters east of the town center along the coastal road. The shore is covered with large pebbles, and rocks rise on both sides to frame a short, narrow strip of water that looks bright blue in the sun.
The beach has long been a quiet spot used by local fishermen and residents, with small boats sometimes anchored just offshore. Its position near the Lycian Way means that for many years it has served as a natural stopping point where a long walk meets the sea.
Along the shore, a few small cafés set out tables and chairs where visitors order tea, coffee, or a light meal while sitting close to the water. The place is used more by locals and hikers on the Lycian Way than by large tour groups, so the daily rhythm stays simple and unhurried.
Wear sturdy sandals or water shoes because the large pebbles can be hard on bare feet. Early morning and late afternoon are the easiest times to visit, since the direct sun is less strong and the walk back uphill from the beach feels cooler.
Underground freshwater springs mix with the sea here, so the water can turn suddenly cold even on a hot summer day. Small fish sometimes gather near swimmers’ feet, and sea turtles occasionally pass along the coast without paying much attention to people.
