Playa Jacó

Spiaggia Jacó is a dark sand beach in Puntarenas, Costa Rica, stretching between mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The shore slopes gently into the water and is framed by rocky formations at both ends, creating a natural enclosure.

This area remained a small, isolated settlement for decades until it became an independent district in 1965, breaking away from Puntarenas. This separation triggered its transformation into a modern coastal destination with expanding infrastructure.

The town has become a gathering place for surfers from around the world who shape the rhythm and character of daily life here. You will find the waterfront lined with restaurants, bars, and shops that cater to this active community from sunrise onward.

The beach is approximately 100 kilometers south of San José and is easily reached by taking the coastal Route 34, normally requiring less than two hours of travel. On-site amenities include parking areas and basic facilities such as showers and small eating options along the waterfront.

The waters here are known for strong currents and consistent wave conditions that make surfing possible year-round. These natural conditions have made it a location for surfing competitions and training camps.
