Melkweg

The Melkweg is a music venue and cultural center in Amsterdam-Centrum, Netherlands. The spaces spread across several floors with stages for live performances, a cinema hall, and galleries for contemporary art.

The former dairy opened in 1970 as a cultural center and became a meeting point for musicians and artists in Amsterdam. Over the decades, the program expanded and the place gained international recognition in the field of popular music.

The name means Milky Way in Dutch and recalls the building's former role as a dairy in central Amsterdam. Visitors today find several halls under one roof, where concerts, film evenings, and exhibitions take place at the same time, creating a lively program.

The entrance is located on Lijnbaansgracht and can be reached on foot or by tram from the city center. Tickets can be purchased online, and the halls together accommodate around 1500 people for different events.

The old brick walls and metal beams from the factory remain visible and form a contrast with the modern stage equipment. Some rooms preserve the original industrial architecture, while others have been completely rebuilt and now resemble contemporary theaters.
