Macarons Philomène, Pastry shop in Quimper, France
Macarons Philomène is a pastry shop on a busy shopping street in Quimper, with a long counter showing rows of colorful macarons, classic French pastries, and a tea room at the back. The front window displays seasonal cakes and trays of viennoiseries that change through the day.
The building housed a haberdashery called À la brodeuse bretonne before becoming a pastry shop more than fifty years ago. The new owners renamed it Rolland-Padou, then later linked the shop’s identity to the small macaron named after Philomène.
The name comes from a former employee of the haberdashery that once occupied the site, and a small statue of her still stands near the entrance as a local marker. Today, regulars arrive in the morning for the daily round of croissants and pains au chocolat, then return later for a slice of cake with tea.
The shop is easy to reach on foot from the old center and works well for a short stop or a longer pause in the tea room. Visitors can browse at their own pace, and the staff can help choose among the many flavors.
Besides the thirty or so macaron flavors offered daily, there is a different special flavor each month, so the selection never stays the same for long. Frozen desserts such as Norwegian omelettes and vacherins are also sold all year, not only in summer.
