Pralus Chocolats, Chocolate shop in the 2nd arrondissement, Lyon, France
Pralus Chocolats is a chocolate shop on Rue de Brest in the Presqu'île area of Lyon's 2nd arrondissement. The small storefront holds an assortment of handmade chocolates, high-cocoa bars, pralines, and baked goods including the house brioche filled with pink pralines.
The Pralus house was founded in Roanne in 1948 by Auguste Pralus. His son François took over the business in the late 1980s and expanded it to Lyon, bringing a focus on sourcing cocoa beans directly from growers around the world.
Pralus Chocolats is best known locally for the Praluline, a soft brioche filled with pink praline pieces that has been part of Lyon's food culture since the 1950s. Visitors often buy it to eat on the spot, and it remains one of the most recognized sweet breads in the city.
The shop is in the Presqu'île, a central area of Lyon that is easy to reach on foot from most parts of the city center. Going in the morning gives you the best chance of finding fresh baked goods alongside the chocolates.
François Pralus planted his own cocoa trees on an island in the Indian Ocean to control the quality of his raw ingredients. Some of the bars sold in the Lyon shop are made directly from those beans.
