Campamento Juvenil Raso de la Nava, Youth campground in Covaleda, Spain
Campamento Juvenil Raso de la Nava is a youth campground located on a high plateau at about 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) elevation between mountain ridges and near the Duero River. The site has eight buildings that include a full kitchen with commercial refrigeration, a medical station, separate bathrooms, and covered areas with fireplaces.
The youth camp was established in the 20th century as part of regional expansion of outdoor facilities in the Sierra de Urbión. This development reflected growing interest in outdoor education and recreation for young people.
The facility teaches visitors about forestry and the surrounding woodland through hands-on educational programs. These activities connect young people directly to the land and help them understand how the forest is managed.
The site sits on an open plateau with clear pathways connecting the buildings and leading to nearby woodland. Visitors can easily move between facilities and reach the surrounding area by foot.
The camp sits within one of Europe's largest continuous forest areas where pine, beech, and oak trees grow together. This rare combination of tree species makes the surrounding woodland botanically distinctive.
