La Pomarada de Somiedo, Mountain campground in Pola de Somiedo, Spain.
La Pomarada de Somiedo is a campground in a mountain valley with separate areas for tents, caravans, and recreational vehicles. The property spreads across multiple levels with electrical connections and water points available throughout.
The site was established to serve visitors to Somiedo Natural Park, which received UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status in 2000 for its ecological importance. This recognition acknowledged the valley's commitment to conservation and protection of its natural environment.
The campground sits in a region where farmers produce cheese using methods passed down through generations and graze livestock on mountain pastures.
The site opens from mid-March to late October with a reception desk staffed from noon to 9 PM. Guests will find WiFi, hot showers, and a small shop on the grounds.
From here, visitors can hike to traditional mountain dwellings with thatched roofs called teitos and experience a settlement form that has lasted for centuries. The trails also pass through areas where brown bears can be spotted in the wild.
