, Medieval fortress in Carcassonne, France

The Medieval City of Carcassonne extends over 3 kilometers with 52 towers and two concentric stone walls surrounding the historical center.

The site transformed from an Iron Age settlement to a Roman stronghold in the 1st century BCE before becoming a medieval fortress under French control.
