Château de Rochebonne

Château de Rochebonne is a medieval castle in Theizé with two round towers on the east side and a ceremonial courtyard at its center. The structure contains several preserved rooms decorated with painted details and trompe-l'oeil effects.

The fortress was demolished in 1363 during the Hundred Years War by Lyon cathedral canons, rebuilt in the 15th century, and remodeled in the 17th century. Each phase of reconstruction left its mark on the building's design and character.

The castle hosts a chamber music festival each September that brings together musicians from across Europe. This annual event has become an important gathering for classical music lovers in the region.

The castle has been managed by the municipality of Theizé since 1984 and functions as a center for regional wine and tourism activities. The grounds are open to visitors interested in exploring both the building and local Beaujolais products.

The building has been placed on a list of endangered structures due to preservation concerns. This designation highlights the importance of protecting its distinctive architectural features for future generations.
