Can Font, Modernist house museum in Lloret de Mar, Spain.
Can Font is a modernist mansion in Lloret de Mar built with a rhomboid floor plan that spans four levels from basement to attic. A central staircase connects each floor, and mahogany railings line the stairs while mosaic floors run throughout the interior.
In 1877, Nicolau Font i Maig commissioned architect Felix Torras i Mataro to design this residence after gaining wealth from Cuban sugar operations. The mansion became an architectural expression of his prosperity during the modernist movement's flourishing period.
The rooms display the Catalan modernist style through hand-painted ceiling frescoes, decorative wall sgraffito, and ornamental stained glass. Walking through the spaces, you notice how every surface reflects the craftsmanship and artistic values of the period.
Access to the house requires joining a guided tour, which operate mainly during the warmer months of the year. You must book in advance through email or phone contact to secure your visit.
The main facade displays a monogram thoughtfully incorporating the letters N and F from the original owner's name. This small but carefully positioned detail serves as a personal signature on the building's exterior.
