Kanin i trøbbel, Sculpture in Sentrum, Oslo, Norway
Kanin i trøbbel is a bronze sculpture in Oslo's Slottsparken, shaped as a rabbit head with a long snout, open mouth, and visible teeth on a circular metal base. The snow-white surface is rough, and the head rests over dirt and gravel with short green grass around it.
The piece was created by Emma Hansen and unveiled in 2016, when Princess Ingrid Alexandra opened a sculpture park to mark the royal couple's 25th anniversary. Two sculptures were first introduced that year, with Hansen's rabbit being one of them.
The rabbit belongs to a group of sculptures made from children's drawings through a national competition, and the whole area is for children and by children. Visitors can walk right up to the pieces, which gives the small park a playful, informal feel.
Look for it in the northeastern part of Slottsparken, in the children's sculpture area opened in 2016. The ground around the base is a mix of grass, bare soil, and gravel, so wearing sturdy shoes helps on wet days.
The sculpture came out of a drawing competition for children, so the rabbit's playful expression comes straight from a young artist's idea. The small blue marks on the cheek and the pink upper lip are details that many people miss while looking at the overall shape.
