Dachgarten - auf dem Gasteig, Rooftop bar in Au-Haidhausen district, Munich, Germany.
The rooftop garden on the Gasteig is a terrace on Europe's largest cultural center with three bars, several food stands, and vegetable beds spread across different levels. The space offers views across Munich and serves Demeter organic wines along with vegan dishes made from local ingredients.
The operation began at different Munich locations and returned in 2025 as a temporary installation on the Gasteig during its renovation period. The concept grew from an idea to connect cultural centers with sustainable food and greening.
The name reflects the concept of a garden on a roof, and visitors experience a blend of food culture with urban growing. Operators and neighbors cultivate vegetable beds together that shape the character of the place.
The place opens daily from 5 PM until midnight and can only be reached via stairs from the S-Bahn entrance. During rain, the roof closes and advance bookings are not possible.
The installation uses solar modules to generate about 70 percent of its energy needs on-site and serves as a model for sustainable building. Pumpkins, radishes, and beans grow on the roof and are used directly in the kitchen.
