This cobblestone square features reconstructed medieval buildings with colorful facades, the Roland statue at its center, and the Town Hall serving as the focal point of the area.

Established in the late 13th century as the city's main marketplace, it suffered extensive destruction during World War II before being carefully reconstructed using historical documentation and archaeological evidence.

The square hosts Riga's annual Christmas market and commemorates the location where the city's Christmas tree was first erected over 500 years ago, maintaining this cherished tradition today.

Located on Kaļķu Street in Old Town, the square provides easy access to surrounding museums, restaurants, and shops while serving as a central meeting point for tourists and locals.

The 6.3-meter tall Roland statue from 1897 represents medieval concepts of justice and municipal independence, making it one of the few such monuments remaining in the Baltic region.
