Oryukdo Skywalk, Scenic viewpoint on coastal cliffs in 용호2동, Busan, South Korea
The Oryukdo Skywalk is a glass-floored walkway that extends over the edge of a coastal cliff in the 용호2동 neighborhood of Busan, South Korea. It sits about 37 meters (120 ft) above the sea, giving walkers an open view of the rocks and water directly beneath their feet.
The skywalk opened in 2013 as the first structure of its kind in Busan. It was built to give visitors a new way to experience the coastline around the Oryukdo Islands, a group of rocky islets formed about 80 million years ago.
Visitors are asked to put on protective shoe covers before stepping onto the glass, so wearing shoes that slip them on easily is a good idea. The skywalk is open year-round, but windy or rainy days can make the walk on the glass feel more demanding.
The name Oryukdo roughly means 'five-six islands' in Korean, because the number of visible rocky islets seems to change depending on the tide and the angle from which you look. Catching this shift in person, from the skywalk or the nearby cliff paths, is something many visitors do not expect.
