Shinji myeongsasipri Beach, Beach and scenic viewpoint on Sinji Island, Wando, South Korea

Shinji Myeongsasipri Beach is a long sandy beach on Sinji Island, part of the Wando area on the southern coast of South Korea. A pine forest lines the back of the beach, offering shade while the shoreline itself stays open to the sea.

The coastline around Sinji Island has long been tied to local fishing, with boats regularly setting out from the shore to work the surrounding waters. The beach only became a visitor destination in more recent decades, gradually gaining recognition for the quality of its sand.

The beach's name translates roughly to "forty li of singing sand," a reference to the soft sound the grains make when walked upon. When the wind blows along the shoreline, visitors can actually hear a faint musical tone rising from the sand beneath their feet.

The beach is reached from Wando by crossing a bridge onto Sinji Island, and arriving by car is the most straightforward option. Visiting on a weekday or outside summer gives a noticeably quieter experience with more space along the shore.

This is one of only a handful of beaches in South Korea where the sand produces an audible sound underfoot, a rare natural phenomenon. Near the shore, a marine health center offers seaweed baths and seawater therapy, drawing visitors who come specifically for that treatment rather than swimming.
