The Pinnacle, Mountain viewpoint in Halls Gap, Australia

The Pinnacle is a rocky summit that rises well above Halls Gap in the Grampians National Park, with a fenced lookout platform at the top. From there, the land drops away to open plains, Lake Bellfield, and ridges covered in eucalyptus forest.

The layered rock walls along the walking routes were formed over long periods of pressure and erosion, shaping the narrow passages and high ledges seen today. In recent decades, bushfires have cleared some slopes, allowing new plants to grow back and gradually change the trailside vegetation.

The lookout is a place where walkers gather to catch their breath and point out landmarks below, often sharing the space with birds riding the wind along the cliff edge. The rock ledges themselves feel like a natural balcony, where people tend to speak more quietly after the climb.

Sturdy walking shoes help on the rocky and sometimes steep paths, and bringing water is a good idea for the uphill sections. Early morning or late afternoon gives softer light and fewer people on the narrow ledges.

A side path near Venus Baths leads to Splitters Falls, which often runs only after heavy rain and leaves mossy rock walls visible when dry. Further along, the narrow Silent Street passage passes small openings called Cool Chamber and Echo Cave, where voices bounce back in a way that surprises first-time walkers.
