Windmills, Restaurant and scenic viewpoint in Ano Meria, Folegandros, Greece
Windmills is a restaurant and scenic viewpoint in Ano Meria, a small village on the Greek island of Folegandros. The restaurant occupies a restored 19th-century stone building that was once part of a small settlement called Themonia, with views over the Aegean Sea.
The stone buildings next to the windmills date back to the 19th century, when they served as homes and as a place to grind grain into flour. The main building was later restored and turned into a restaurant, keeping original features such as the fireplace and the small wall openings.
The windmills of Ano Meria on Folegandros stand near a building that once ground grain and now serves as a dining room. Inside, the old fireplace and small square wall openings that once held lamps are still visible, giving a sense of how people lived and worked here.
The site can be reached on foot from the surrounding villages, and the viewpoint over the Aegean Sea makes a visit rewarding at any time of day. Coming in the late afternoon tends to give the best light over the old stone buildings and the sea beyond.
The restaurant serves wine from Santorini and Graviera cheese from Naxos alongside its local dishes, showing how connected the Aegean island kitchens are to one another. On a clear day, some of those same islands can be seen from the viewpoint just outside.
