Viewpoint tower, Scenic viewpoint in Nunspeet, Netherlands
The Uitkijktoren is a roughly 100-foot-tall (30-meter) observation tower on the edge of the Veluwe near Nunspeet, built on steel stilts with a round, covered viewing platform at the top. It sits within the Veluwetransferium, a hub used as a starting point for walks and bike rides into the surrounding forests and heathlands.
The tower was built in 2002 by the municipality of Nunspeet and the province of Gelderland to give visitors a vantage point over the Veluwe landscape. The following year, Staatsbosbeheer opened the Zandenbos visitor center directly across from it.
The tower is reached by a staircase of 130 steps and is not accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. Those who prefer not to climb can still see the view on a live screen at the base, connected to a webcam at the top.
On a clear day, the view from the top reaches all the way to the Flevopolder in the province of Flevoland, a remarkable distance for a forested region. The tower's design, resembling a flying saucer perched on steel stilts, makes it stand out sharply against the trees around it.
