Užpalių dvaras
Užpalių dvaras is a historic manor house standing by the Šventosios River in the settlement of Užpaliai. The estate includes several buildings from different periods: a neoclassical administrative building from the 18th century, a water mill, old stables, and a worker's house that together show the structure of a working manor.
The manor dates to the 16th century and belonged to some of Lithuania's most powerful families including the Astikai, Radvilos, and Sapiegos. After the 1831 uprising, Russian authorities confiscated the estate and used the buildings for schools and other state institutions.
The manor takes its name from the nearby settlement of Užpaliai and reflects the importance it held for the region. Today visitors can explore the building and see how people lived here in earlier times, especially in the restored spaces where traditional crafts programs like bread-baking take place.
The manor is open to visitors four days a week and it is recommended to contact ahead, especially if you want to take part in educational programs or visit with larger groups. Paths lead through the buildings and across the grounds which include a pond where visitors can walk freely.
A particularly interesting spot on the grounds is the Kamenyčia, a stone building where Viktorija Jovarienė runs educational programs. Visitors can bake traditional Mieleni buns and learn about manor life while working in a rustic stone setting.
