Oslo Opera House
The Oslo Opera House is a modern building at the harbor in the Bjørvika district at the end of Oslo Fjord. It features a white granite facade with Italian marble, and its roof resembles an iceberg gently rising from the water, forming a large open space where visitors can walk around.
The opera house was designed by the architecture firm Snøhetta and opened in 2008 following an international competition. It received the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture in 2009 and quickly became a symbol of modern culture in Norway.
The opera house has become a gathering place in Oslo where people come to watch performances or simply explore the building itself. Its open design encourages visitors to use the space even outside of shows, making it a living part of the city's daily life.
You can walk up a wide ramp onto the roof of the building to view the city and fjord from above. The site is accessible to everyone and offers plenty of space to explore whether you attend a performance or simply take a stroll.
The building was featured in the Norwegian television series Beforeigners, becoming a recognizable landmark in the city. The bay in front of the opera house provides a special backdrop for the story of people from different time periods meeting in Oslo.
