Monument à la mémoire de Piotr Stolypine, Statue in Presnensky District, Moscow, Russia

The Monument to the Memory of Piotr Stolypine is a dark stone statue in the Presnensky District of Moscow, dedicated to the Russian prime minister who held office from 1906 to 1911. It stands on a plain pedestal and shows Stolypine in a formal pose with carefully carved facial features and clothing.

The monument was erected in 2002 to mark the 140th anniversary of Stolypin's birth; he had served as prime minister under Tsar Nicholas II and became known for agrarian reforms alongside firm action against revolutionaries. He was assassinated in Kyiv in 1911, which brought his tenure to an abrupt end.

Pyotr Stolypin's reputation in Russia is split: some see him as a firm reformer, others remember him for his harsh suppression of unrest. The monument stands in a busy district, so many passers-by walk past it daily without giving it a second look.

The statue is in the Presnensky District, close to several metro stations, making it easy to reach on foot from other central Moscow sites. There are no opening hours since the monument is always accessible from the street.

Stolypin is one of the few tsarist-era statesmen to be honored with new monuments in Russia after the Soviet Union fell, which shows how his figure re-entered public debate after decades of being ignored. His name is also tied to a type of railway car, called the Stolypin car, used to transport peasants and later prisoners across Siberia.
