Monument aux fusillés du Bois de la Reulle, Memorial stele in Gragnague, France

The Monument aux fusillés du Bois de la Reulle is a stone stele standing in a small clearing inside the woods of the Reulle, in the village of Gragnague near Toulouse, commemorating fifteen people shot by German soldiers on June 27, 1944. The cube-shaped structure rests on a broken column and displays, on its sides, the names of the identified victims alongside numbers for those who remain unknown.

On June 27, 1944, fifteen resistance fighters were shot by German soldiers in these woods and buried on the spot. In September 1944, German troops returned to dig up the bodies, but the remains of the unidentified victims were eventually moved to the cemetery of Castelmaurou on April 13, 1990.

The memorial is accessible via the Chemin des fusillés du Bois de la Reulle, a small path that leads into the wooded area. Visiting can easily be combined with a walk through the woods, and sturdy footwear is advisable in wet weather.

The memorial lists a Belgian man named Charles de Hepcée among the victims, a reminder that those shot came from beyond the local area. Old photographs from around 2012 show that he was still recorded as an unknown soldier under the number 43 before his identity was finally confirmed.
