Portal de la Costa Brava, Monument in Blanes, Spain

The Portal de la Costa Brava is a stone gate from the 1400s in Blanes, one of the few remaining sections of the town's original defensive walls. It stands on a main street and features plain stone arches with no elaborate decoration.

The gate was built in the 1400s as part of the fortifications that protected Blanes from raids coming from the sea and land. Over time, most of the surrounding walls were torn down, and this portal is now one of the few surviving traces.

The Portal once welcomed travelers and merchants heading toward the coast, and that sense of passage still shapes how people use the spot today. Visitors often pause here before walking into the old town's narrow streets and nearby cafes.

The gate sits on a main street and is easy to reach on foot, with no barriers for people with limited mobility. A visit pairs well with a walk through the nearby old town center, which begins just steps away.

Although the gate has no inscription, it sits at the exact spot where the old road left the town walls toward the coast, making it a literal starting point of what is now called the Costa Brava. The name it carries today came long after the gate was built, once the region gained its reputation as a travel destination.
