The bridge represents a landmark achievement in modern Chinese infrastructure development, embodying the country's commitment to improving regional connectivity and supporting economic growth throughout the Yangtze River Delta region.
The bridge features a two-level design with an upper deck carrying a six-lane expressway and a lower deck accommodating both an intercity railway capable of speeds up to 124 mph (200 km/h) and four lanes for regular vehicular traffic, reducing river crossing times from over an hour to just 20 minutes.
This structure holds the distinction of being the world's longest cable-stayed bridge and features an innovative asymmetrical lower deck design that balances a heavy railway system on one side with a regular roadway on the other through precise cable tension adjustments.
