Marché de Noël Médiéval de Ribeauvillé
The Medieval Christmas Market of Ribeauvillé is a festival held over two weekends in a historic town with cobblestone streets transformed by period decorations and wooden ornaments. Vendor stalls serve roasted wild boar, tarte flambée, and traditional medieval-style drinks, while costumed performers, musicians, and craftspeople populate the narrow alleys.
The market was created by Antoine Helbert in collaboration with local associations to offer a medieval-themed experience. After a break in 2020, the concept was rethought and revived with new animations and focus on handcrafted goods.
The medieval Christmas market brings Alsatian holiday traditions to life with costumed performers and local crafts. Visitors experience regional customs such as the baking of bredalas and the celebration of Saint Nicholas, along with authentic medieval-style foods that connect people to centuries-old ways of marking the season.
The market is easily accessible with free parking in Bergheim and a shuttle service running every 20 minutes, with free admission for all visitors. Pets are welcome, allowing people to explore the various areas and attractions at a leisurely pace.
Approximately 35 roasted wild boars are cooked over open fire each weekend, making this one of few places where medieval cooking methods are genuinely practiced. The organizers deliberately discourage quick coach visits and instead encourage visitors to spend time slowly wandering and savoring the experience.
