Supertubos
Supertubos is a well-known surf spot on the south side of Peniche, Portugal, with long and powerful waves that break into distinctive barrels. The beach has a rocky bottom framed by steep cliffs, with the bay opening out to the Atlantic Ocean.
The spot has established itself over decades as one of Europe's best surf centers and regularly hosts international competitions like the Rip Curl Pro Portugal. Its reputation for consistent quality waves has made it a destination for professional and ambitious surfers worldwide.
The name Supertubos comes from the barrel-shaped waves that form when conditions are perfect, and visitors can see a lively surfer community where locals and travelers share advice and help each other prepare their boards on the sand.
The spot is best visited between October and March when waves are bigger and more frequent, and checking the surf forecast beforehand is important to find the right conditions. Parking and basic facilities like showers and restrooms are available, and the nearby town of Peniche offers cafes, restaurants, and surf schools for all skill levels.
On calmer days or when swell comes from the north, waves here are smaller and gentler because the Peniche peninsula blocks much of the incoming energy, showing how the same spot can offer completely different experiences depending on conditions. In such times, less experienced surfers can use the waves while professionals often move to the nearby Molho Leste cove when swell gets too large.
