Cheongnamdae, 韓国の大統領専用の別荘地として使用されていた保養施設
Cheongnamdae is a large estate near Cheongju featuring a main building with a blue roof, surrounded by ancient pine trees and manicured gardens. The grounds contain over 140 types of flowers and more than 120 species of trees, including rare and endangered plants, along with facilities such as a golf range, helipad, and fishing spots.
The estate was built in 1980 under President Chun Doo-hwan's direction and completed in just six months. Multiple presidents visited the site regularly during their terms to rest and make important decisions in a private setting away from public view.
The name Cheongnamdae refers to a warm southern retreat, echoing the symbolism of the presidential Blue House in Seoul. Visitors today experience how the site bridges nature and Korea's political past, serving as a place for quiet reflection on the country's leadership.
The estate is accessible only by reservation, with a daily limit of 1000 visitors guided by bus tours lasting about two hours. Visiting hours change seasonally, opening at nine in the morning and closing at six in summer months or five in winter, with last entry about ninety minutes before closing.
The estate has served as a filming location for dramas, movies, and commercials, making it a recognized site in the South Korean entertainment industry. This cinematic history adds an extra layer of interest for visitors who appreciate storytelling and visual media.
