Nassfeld Ski Resort
Nassfeld is a ski resort in southeastern Austria with slopes ranging from about 610 meters to over 2000 meters elevation. The area has about 110 kilometers of runs and around 30 modern lifts that serve a variety of terrain for beginners, intermediate skiers, and those seeking backcountry adventures.
Nassfeld developed as a winter sports destination in the 20th century, growing from a regional mountain area into a major ski resort. Its proximity to the Italian border shaped the region's character and contributed to establishing it as a popular destination in the Alpine region.
The name Nassfeld refers to the wetlands that characterize this mountain region. Visitors can observe a blend of Austrian and Italian customs today, visible in local cooking, building styles, and the relaxed way people spend their time on the slopes and in the villages.
The resort is easily accessible from Munich, Venice, and Vienna by train to Villach and then local bus or car service. Daily operations run from around 9 in the morning until about 4:30 in the afternoon, with plenty of lodging and equipment rental options in the villages of Troelach and Sonnenalpe nearby.
The resort receives an average of 7 to 8 meters of snowfall per winter and operates about 50 snow cannons for reliability during lean snow periods. This combination makes the area one of the most dependable places for powder snow and off-piste exploration in the Alps.
