Bergbahnen Wilder Kaiser
Bergbahnen Wilder Kaiser is a ski resort in Ellmau spread across the larger SkiWelt region and offers more than 275 kilometers of slopes served by 81 lifts. The modern Hartkaiserbahn, a 10-seater gondola, takes visitors to 1550 meters (5,085 ft) in about nine minutes and provides access to hiking and skiing trails year-round.
The region started developing as a ski area in the late 1970s and has since grown into one of Austria's largest mountain regions. This transformation established it as a major winter sports destination that attracts many visitors each year.
The area takes its name from Hartkaiser, the mountain that dominates the landscape. Traditional alpine huts scattered across the slopes reflect the local heritage and shape how visitors experience the mountain.
Modern lifts enable quick access with minimal waits, while eight different entry points make it easy to reach the slopes from nearby cities like Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Munich. Well-maintained slopes and clear trail information throughout the area help visitors plan their day easily.
The region offers night skiing at selected locations like Brixen and Söll where about 10 kilometers of slopes are lit for evening runs. Paragliding is also available, allowing visitors to see the Wilder Kaiser mountains from above.
